Hae Woon Dae

On the outside you see a mix of traditional Korean/Japanese wood paneling with the ticky tacky bric brac of retail consumerism: lunch special list (in Korean only), fliers, posters for beer and cigarettes and travel agencies. You cannot see the clean traditional lines of the interior until you step through the second entry door. Most of the waitresses are wearing a two-tone turquoise green uniform that looks equal parts Jetson and 1950s retro.

The menu is extensive with categories like hot pots, noodles dishes, casseroles, roasted dishes, mixed rice dishes, sushi and sashimi, and a la carte which includes tempura, teriyaki, and rice dishes. There are explanations in English which can guide you in making your selection.

As with most Korean restaurants you are served a variety of appetizer/side dishes with your meal.

One special thing they do: for grilling meat at the table they use real charcoal instead of gas burners or canned butane usually seen.

Also Note: in spite of the no smoking signs everywhere it is not unusual to see patrons smoking.
